Now Telecom pens deal for 5G towers

Now Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based infrastructure provider SBA Communications as part of plans to bolster its 5G deployment.

Now Telecom detailed in a statement it is negotiating with the NASDAQ-listed company a lease of sites, towers, and passive telecommunications infrastructure and facilities that will be made available for the installation of facilities and equipment to provide telecommunications services.

The company highlighted how this deal is part of plans to provide 5G technology to customers with speeds up to 20Gbps to businesses and homes.

SBA Communications operates in sixteen markets across the Americas, Africa and the Philippines. It is registered as an independent tower company with the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

“It is an integral policy in Now Group’s roadmap to partner with trusted vendors that are part of the Clean Network. We look forward to working with SBA Towers Philippines whose expertise is providing support to operators like NOW to achieve our vision,” said Now Telecom President and COO Rene Rosales.

Now Telecom entered the Philippines market in 2019 as the fourth operator competing against Smart, Globe Telecom, and Dito Telecommunity.

In April. Now Telecom gained approval for the Philippines’ bourse to increase its authorised capital stock to fund its expansion plans and attract foreign investors.
